Differences and Prices Between Versions of Windows 7

Most users only choose between two versions. Microsoft said that 80% of users will deploy Windows 7 Home Premium (consumer) or Windows 7 Professional (small businesses, teleworkers). This is where Microsoft puts most of its marketing power.

Windows 7 Home Basic

Home Basic is located between Starter and Home Premium. It has all the features of Windows 7 Starter and is only available through OEM partners in developing countries. Also similar to Starter, it does not include the Aero Glass GUI. Home Basic can run more than three applications at the same time; a 64-bit version; thumbnail previews from the taskbar; and the Mobility Center, which allows you to manage the various networks connected to the laptop.

Windows 7 Home Premium

Windows 7 Home Premium has all the features of Starter and Home Basic, and then there are some features. This is the mainstream retail version that almost all consumers will use. Windows 7 Home Premium will be available globally to Microsoft OEMs and will be sold at retail stores that have new PCs. Home Premium includes new Windows navigation features such as Aero Glass GUI and Aero Glass, Aero Background, Windows Touch, Home Group Creation, Media Center, DVD Play and Creation, Advanced Games and Mobile Center.

Windows 7 Professional

Windows 7 Professional is also available to original equipment manufacturers and retailers worldwide, with Home Premium features, but with enhanced network and data protection features for small businesses and those who frequently work from home. Windows 7 Professional does not include more popular business features.

Windows 7 Enterprise Edition

Windows 7 Enterprise can only be offered to companies through volume licensing. It contains all the features of Windows 7 Professional and more security and networking features. Features that distinguish Enterprise and Professional include: BitLocker (encrypts data on internal and external drives); DirectAccess (connects to corporate networks without a VPN); AppLocker (prevents unauthorized software from running); and BranchCache (speeds up branch office access Remote file speed). Windows 7 Enterprise is designed for the business community and can only be used by large enterprises. It will not be provided at the retail or original equipment manufacturer for pre-installation on a new PC.

Windows 7 Ultimate

Ultimate, an oversized version of Windows, contains all the features of all other versions. Think of it as Windows 7 Enterprise for consumer use.

Ultimate will be the most expensive version, so many people will use it instead of occasionally super users wanting all possible features. Microsoft is unlikely to vigorously promote Windows 7 Ultimate. Most common users don’t need all the security and networking features, and for companies that are not yet in the Windows 7 enterprise, there does not seem to be much Ultimate functionality.

How to Install Windows 7 Step By Step

Installation process
Just like in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, unlike earlier versions of Windows, Windows 7 did not have an explicit textual stage during the installation process, and it would boot directly into the graphical user interface (GUI) mode.

After a while, you will see the first prompt, click “Next”, select the setting language. Click the “Install Now button”.

Next, accept the license terms and click “Next”. Next, press the Custom (Advanced) Installation Type button unless you are upgrading an existing Windows installation. Note that in this case, the upgrade button is disabled because if you do this specific installation on a new computer without any previous operating system. The next stage is to choose the installation partition. Because this computer has a new hard disk that has not yet been formatted, you can only choose to create a new partition on it. The next step is to start the installation.

The installation process will now begin copying files from the installation DVD media to the hard disk.

Depending on the type of hardware your computer uses, the process may take some time. In my VM test example for this demo, the entire process was completed before the completion of the first three paragraphs, so it can be very fast. The computer will restart and you will see the prompt to set the user name and computer name. By default, the name of the computer will be username-PC, where username is the username you entered. Click on “Next”. Enter the user’s password. Click on “Next”.

Next, enter your product key. If you do not have a product key at hand, you can still click Next and continue with the installation. After installing Windows, you will be asked to enter the product key.

Set the time and location and other click on the next step.

Windows will finish setting up and display your desktop.

Before installing the step without entering a key, if you want a genuine key to activate your windows 7, you can watch the video below. The product key is obtained from Vanskeys.com

Install Method of Windows 7 SP1

SP1 is the abbreviation for ServicePack 1, which means the patch package contains all the patches for a period of time. These patches contain security enhancements and feature enhancements and fixes.

Installing Service Pack 1 for Windows 7

1.Log into Windows, click on the Start button and then select Control Panel.

2.Once the Control Panel is visible, click on System and Security.

3.Click on the green heading, Windows Update.

4.Once Windows Update is on the screen, click on “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update”.

5.Your computer may spend several minutes checking for available updates.

6.Once it has completed, click on “# important updates are available”

7.At the top of the list, uncheck the box next to “Name” in order to deselect all updates. We recommend you install the Service Pack prior to any other updates, if possible. Some updates may be included in the Service Pack, and others may need to be reinstalled after the Service Pack.

8.Scroll through the list until you find “Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)” and click the check box next to it. It may not be the last item listed on your computer, but it will be under the “Windows 7” section (as opposed to the “Office” or other sections).

9.Click the OK button on that screen.

10.Windows Update will now return to the initial Windows Update screen. It should say that there is one important update selected. Click on the button marked Install updates.

11.Do not turn your computer off during installation for any reason. Reboot only when prompted to do so.

12.There may be additional updates available for your computer now that you have installed the Service Pack. You can go back into Windows Update to check, and this time you may leave all “Important” updates selected.

If you do not see Service Pack 1 in the list of updates

There are a few possible causes. One is that your computer already has Service Pack 1. To check:

1.Go into Control Panel and click on System and Security.

2.Click on System.

3.If you have Service Pack 1 installed already, it will be listed on this screen, as shown in the following example. If that’s the case, you’re done. If not, continue to the next step.

4.The other possibility is that your computer is lacking an update that is a prerequisite to Service Pack 1. We have seen this on some computers with an Intel integrated display adapter. The computer may require a display driver update, followed by a reboot, before the Service Pack will appear on the list.

5.To check to see if an Intel display driver update is available, follow steps 1-7 in the first section on installing the Service Pack. But instead of looking for the Service Pack in the list (step 8), look for an update with a title similar to “Intel Corporation – Display – Mobile Intel(R) Series Express Chipset”. Desktop computers may not have the word “Mobile” in the update title.

6.Click the check box next to the Intel Display update, and click on OK.

7.Click on the button labelled Install updates.

8.When prompted, reboot your computer and redo steps 1-12 in the first section. If the Service Pack still does not appear in the list of available updates, please call the UT Service Center at x4357.

Downloading and installing Windows SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center

If you’re unable to install SP1 from Windows Update, you can download the installation package from the Microsoft Download Center and then install SP1 manually.

1.Go to the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 download page on the Microsoft website.

2.Select Install Instructions to see which packages are available for download, and make note of the one that you need.

3.Select the appropriate language from the drop-down list, and then select Download.

4.Select the packages you need to install, select Next, and then follow the instructions to install SP1. Your PC might restart a few times during the installation.

5.After SP1 is installed, sign in to your PC. You might see a notification indicating whether the update was successful. If you disabled your antivirus software before the installation, make sure you turn it back on.

After Windows 7 SP1 is installed, the most important thing is to activate it with a product key. The keys that you want to get cheap and genuine must be Vanskeys.com.

If you do not activate, you will see and “Activate now” message every day from the 4th to the 27th day. After the 30th day, you will receive an “immediate activation” message every hour and will inform you that the Windows version is not genuine each time you start the Control Panel. In addition, Windows 7 will not perform any system updates after the grace period. The difference between OEM and Retail:

1) Retail support comes from Microsoft. OEM support comes from System Builder.
2) Retail version can be moved to new motherboard. OEM cannot.
3) Retail version can be used for either a full install or an in-place upgrade. OEM can only be installed on an empty partition.
4) Retail version includes Key attached to folder in package. OEM Key is on a “COA” sticker that is required to be attached to the case of the PC where the software is installed.
5) Retail version software can be resold even after it’s opened. OEM version software can’t be resold once the seal is broken. The OEM software can only be resold as part of the complete PC system where it was originally installed.
